VERIFY:geological_stage: stored=aptian suggested=barremian confidence=medium — Caudipteryx is known only from the lower Yixian Formation (Jianshangou Bed, Sihetun/Zhangjiagou area), and high-precision 40Ar/39Ar ages of 125.8 ± 1.0 Ma and 126.0 ± 0.8 Ma for the underlying Lujiatun Unit place these beds below the base of the Aptian as currently defined (~121.4 Ma, GTS2020). The 'Aptian' assignment reflects an older timescale calibration and is superseded; the fossil-bearing lower Yixian is Barremian.

VERIFY:period_end_mya: stored=120 suggested=124 confidence=medium — All Caudipteryx material comes from the Yixian Formation, whose deposition is constrained to roughly 125.8–124.1 Ma, with the overlying Jiufotang Formation beginning at ~122.0 ± 0.9 Ma. A stored end date of 120 Ma extends the genus several million years beyond the youngest beds that have yielded it.
